Nike’s annual Black History Month release has come a long way.

What started with a single Air Force 1 has grown into a full-fledged collection over the past decade-plus. With the evolution of the releases has come a progression of the message, too. Originally honoring African-American athletic achievement, the Swoosh’s BHM drops have offered a wider celebration of Black heritage in the years since while this year’s drop incorporates decorative marbling in a blend of black and white. The result is an emphasis on the strength of harmonious movement while punctuating gold accents throughout recall the power of unity.

This time around, Nike and Jordan Brand have called on some of their most popular silhouettes for inclusion in the BHM collection. LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Durant all see their latest Nike Basketball signatures done up in the black/white/gold combo while Serena Williams — fresh off of her record-breaking Australian Open title — sees her Flare included, too. Joining the signature silhouettes are everything from modern runners like the LunarEpic Flyknit to newly resurrected retro kicks like the old Jordan Trunner. The Air Jordan 1 appears as well, getting two different makeups for adults and kids. Finally, it wouldn’t be a BHM drop without the Air Force 1, so a high-top take on the basketball classic is joined by a juxtaposing rendition of the AF1 Upstep. Capping off the release are tees for men and women — which boldly display a message of equality — along with special versions of the MVP jacket and pants.

Check out the Air Jordan 1 above and head on over to Nike Inc. for a look at the entire BHM collection. Jordan Brand’s BHM kicks will hit nike.com and select retailers and February 11 while the remainder of the collection will follow on February 16. As with past Black History Month release, proceeds will go to benefit Nike’s Ever Higher Fund, which was created to bring mentorship, sport and all of its benefits to youth and their communities.
