Way back in July of last year the news broke that “Warner Bros. and LeBron James announced a new partnership that would cover projects ranging in TV, film and original digital content.” This lead us all to believe that James would be the star in the sequel to Space Jam, which is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Today we have pretty much gotten confirmation that Space Jam 2 is indeed really happening and LeBron James will be the face of the highly anticipated movie. Justin Lin, who will be the director of the movie, is in “early talks” with LeBron James to star in the film. Lin has directed four films in the “Fast & Furious” franchise and has “Star Trek Beyond” opening this summer. Andrew Dodge (“Bad Words”) is expected to write the script with input from Lin.

Author’s Take

I think it’s cool to see a Space Jam sequel being made. Many fans may not be happy to see LeBron James instead of Michael Jordan taking the star role, but today’s generation can relate much better to LeBron instead of MJ who they just see as a “retired NBA player.”
